Van Boening had less difficulty, moving through the gears to defeat Tyler Styer, a colleague from the Mosconi Cup, 9-2, and set up a repeat of the 2021 World Pool Masters final with Alexander Kazakis coming up next. With a convincing victory over Ko Ping Chung, Shane Wolford maintained his chances of competing in his first Mosconi Cup alive. Oscar Dominguez, Greg Hogue, Styer, Chris Reinhold, Bustamante, and Skyler Woodward will all be vying for a position on Team USA as their campaigns go. Billy Thorpe was defeated 9-0 by Jani Uski, ending his chances of securing an automatic place.
Quest for a second US Open victory
In order to continue his quest for a second US Open victory, Filler must defeat Kyle Akaloo, and there is still much at stake for Team Europe’s Mosconi spots with players like Mario He, Kazakis, Jayson Shaw, Ouschan, David Alcaide, and Francisco Sanchez Ruiz all still in contention heading into the final three days.
