The Predator World Women’s 10-Ball Championship and Predator World Teams Championship begin on Tuesday in Klagenfurt, Austria, and journalists were invited to the SportPark Klagenfurt on Monday morning for the formal press conference to kick off the tournament.
The competitions’ principal promotional partner is Jasmin Ouschan’s Billiard Sport Academy, and the 36-year-old herself has been a driving factor behind them. Although Ouschan won the World 10-Ball Championship in 2010, this is the first time the event has been held since 2013, when Rubilen Amit was the champion. Ouschan is a well-known figure in Austria; she finished second on Dancing With The Stars last year and is aiming for another 10-Ball crown this week.
“Having a World Championship women’s event and a team event in Klagenfurt is really incredible,” she remarked. “My brother and I are well-known here, but the public seldom gets to see us.”
“Because there isn’t much pool on television, bringing a major event to my area is quite meaningful.” I’m aware of the additional pressure that comes with it. Winning a World Championship in my hometown is a far-fetched fantasy.
“We have tremendous support from the city of Klagenfurt, our county Carinthia, and Predator.” We formed such an awesome team. I have to tell that in the last few weeks, I have done less and less since, at the end of the day, I am an athlete. But, of course, I was always active, and seeing what we’ve accomplished here makes me very pleased. I’m hopeful that all of the players, as well as the federations, will realize what we’re doing for the sport and the athletes here.”
On Tuesday at 4 p.m., Ouschan will face Kristina Grim of Slovakia. Ouschan will compete in both the Women’s World 10-Ball Championship and the World Teams Championship, partnering with Mario He and her brother Albin on Austria’s ‘A’ team.
Austria A is one of eight teams seeded in the brackets for the winners. They will meet the winner of the match between Portugal and New Zealand, which takes place at 7 p.m. on Tuesday.
Last year’s Pro Billiard Series Austrian Opens were held in Klagenfurt, and Kelly Fisher won the Women’s championship. The Brit won the last Women’s World 9-Ball title and is thrilled to be competing for two World titles this week.
“It’s great to be back in this wonderful city of Klagenfurt,” Fisher said to the gathering press. “Not only because I won here last year, but because of the work that goes into putting on such an event.” The venue is fantastic, and players can’t help but enjoy themselves.
Women’s World 10-Ball Championships
“I’m excited about the occasion.” It is tremendously thrilling to have both the Teams and which have not been held in ten years. It’s incredible to have two huge events occurring at the same time, and I’m looking forward to a fantastic, action-packed week. It’s going to be a really unique and unforgettable week.”
